The Rundown: Walker and Pilgrim continue to hunt a killer and Donny Cates hatches a plan.

It’s 2017 and Special Agent Pendleton has someone that he needs to talk to. Someone important to the events that have just happened in the world and might have the answers that he and the government are looking for. Someone by the name of Donny Cates. It turns out that Mr. Cates was apprehended in Denver with the outline of a story in his possession. To make matters worse, the circumstances of his capture included a violent incident outside the dome.

Cates explains how he doesn’t know what is happening and he isn’t in control of events. He goes on tell Pendleton what the story was supposed to be, but also the fact that he didn’t finish it. A reveal that leads directly to why he’s been imprisoned as well as his face to face with Ellie. A meeting that takes a dark turn, but also might be her only way of escaping. At the same time, Walker and Pilgrim get a nasty surprise when they continue their investigation into a killer.

The Story: I love the meta brilliance of this series and how Cates has written himself into it. There are some great conversations between the characters as well and Ellie’s passion about the nature of her existence is awesome drama. The Walker/Pilgrim story is incredibly tense and builds to a beautiful and unexpected reveal that makes me excited for the next part of the story.

The Art: Shaw delivers some amazing art on every page of this issue. I continue to love the visual contrast between human characters and comic book characters. It’s a great visual cue that keeps the reader visually engaged with the story and its characters.
