Anson Mount’s portrayal of the previous Captain of the Starship Enterprise on Star Trek: Discovery was welcomed by fans and it looks like the actor’s portrayal has earned him some more time in the Captain’s chair.
According to multiple sources, including The Hollywood Reporter, Anson Mount will return as Captain Christopher Pike in a new series titled Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for CBS All Access. The Trek spin-off received a straight to series order from the streaming service and will be overseen by Alex Kurtzman.
The series will follow the adventures of the Enterprise under Pike’s command in the decade before James Kirk takes command. Joining Pike on his adventures will be Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn reprising their roles of Spock and Number One.
“When we said we heard the fans’ outpouring of love for Pike, Number One and Spock when they boarded Star Trek: Discovery last season, we meant it,” said Kurtzman. “These iconic characters have a deep history in Star Trek canon, yet so much of their stories has yet to be told. With Akiva and Henry at the helm, the Enterprise, its crew and its fans are in for an extraordinary journey to new frontiers in the Star Trek universe.”
The series premiere was written by Akiva Goldsman and will be executive produced by Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth among others.
