It looks like the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on track. With the announcement that James Gunn will return to write and direct the next Guardians of the Galaxy film, there is news that another Marvel Studios property is gearing up to begin with the announcement of its directors.
Marvel is announcing that, after an exhaustive search, they have tapped Mississippi Grind directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck to direct the Captain Marvel film for the studio. The duo will helm the film starring Academy Award winner Brie Larson in the lead from a script by Guardians of the Galaxy writer Nicole Perlman and Inside Out writer Meg LeFauve.
The directing duo is mainly known for their television work on series like The Affair and Billions but the duo did previously direct the 2006 film Half Nelson, which earned star Ryan Gosling his first Oscar nomination. They join an impressive pedigree with Infinity War directors The Russo Brothers, who directed many television series before moving to features.
Captain Marvel is scheduled to be released March 8, 2019. So expect more news as production begins.
