The Rundown: Holt and his new partner travel to the town of Canary to investigate the source of a series of murders.

Marshall Holt continues to think about his confrontation with Tell and how unusual it was as he makes his way to the station outside the town of Canary. After meeting with his new partner Edison, the pair are greeted by the town’s mayor who decides to take them to their final destination.

After going back and forth with the mayor about their job and Holt’s legend, the pair reach Canary and are greeted by the people before heading into the local bar for a drink. After meeting the owner and learning her connection of the town’s biggest tragedy, the three agree to head out the next day to get some answers.

The Story: Snyder delivers a deeply cerebral and entertaining story in this issue. It’s a great follow up to the first issue and does a wonderful job of building the world of these characters and the lore of their environment. I enjoyed that the issue took a slower, deliberate tone that allowed for the introduction of new characters while expanding the mystery at the center of the plot. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

The Art: Panosian has a wonderful visual eye and does a brilliant job of creating environments that are engaging to the reader while also giving the characters distinct looks and emotional range.
