The Rundown: The girls get a rude awakening when a new man comes calling at the farm.

Haddy and Ryelyn find themselves out in the nearby woods together talking about the creature they saw by the outhouse the night before. Unfortunately, their tale gets interrupted by a neighbor who has a warning not only about the pigs that keep escaping the farm, but also the thing they thought they saw.

Back at the farm, Jesse makes a new friend that her mother disapproves of and one of the farmhands has a plan for the recently widowed farm owner. A plan Mrs. Mason is happy to indulge in by inviting the man to dinner and sending the girls off to bed. When one of them has to go to the outhouse, they discover what their mother has done with their guest and that there is more than one evil lurking on their land.

The Story: Cleveland continues to craft a dark, engaging story filled with atmosphere. The story has some great character moments and I love how the tension and suspense build throughout it not only with the girl’s dealing with the threat of their mother, but also the supernatural elements building throughout the series. There is a dark and ominous vibe and feel to this issue that makes me interested in seeing just how dark this story is going to get.

The Art: Cormack delivers fantastic art throughout the issue. The pages and panels brilliantly capture the dark tone of the story while showcasing the rising tension and suspense with small visual details that capture the eye.
