The Rundown: A gang of criminals gets the attention of more than the dynamic duo.

A kidnapped woman finds herself being held by a fanatic and his cult until she is rescued by Batman and Robin. After returning to the cave, Batman tells Dick that he has a date. A date that will bring him and the young woman into a dark alley and an attack by young criminals. An attack that will be interrupted by a mystery woman.

In the aftermath, Bruce returns to the mansion to consult with Alfred and Dick and the pair decide to come up with a plan to infiltrate the group of kids to get information on who their boss could be while one of the kids has a run in with a familiar face who has become interested in the gang as well.

The Story: Waid crafts a fun, entertaining and thrilling story in this first issue. There is great action in the issue as well as some great banter between Batman and Robin. The story has all the tones that I expect from the early days of Batman and Robin and the story has the grounded feel that I want from this title and its characters. I loved the introduction of the mystery character in this issue and what it means for Batman going forward.

The Art: Samnee creates some beautifully detailed and visually exciting art in this issue. It definitely harkens back to the silver age of comics but elevates the visuals in a way that is impressive.
