The Rundown: Lucy must reconcile her past as an old threat returns.

Lucy Weber recounts the circumstances that separated her from her father. Circumstances that led her on a quest to find him. When she does and discovers the other misplaced heroes of Spiral City, she finds out the devastating news about her father and also takes up his mantle as the new Black Hammer. After years of being a hero, Lucy hangs up the hammer and proceeds to live a normal life complete with husband and kids, but the dangers of supervillains continue.

As she navigates the everyday burdens of a normal life, something happens in the city that gets her attention. As her friend confronts her with some devastating personal news, a growing threat in the city reminds her of a dark time from her superhero past. A time she refuses to return her.

The Story: Lemire takes readers back into the world of Black Hammer with a story that is brilliantly written and immensely entertaining. The plot is great and the dialogue is rich and engaging. Centering the story on Lucy is brilliant because it gives the reader a connection to the world that allows new readers to dive right into the story and its themes. An impressive first issue that is filled with mystery and a world that I want to see explored more.

The Art: Yarsky does some beautiful work with the art in this issue. Not only do the characters look great, but they are expressive and full of life. I love the progression of the story through the visuals and was dazzled by the imagery throughout.
