The Rundown: Young Bruce Wayne takes another step towards fulfilling his promise, but at what cost?

A man returns home to his family only to discover they have become the victims of a sadistic killer. At the same time, Bruce Wayne contemplates if he made the right decision leaving Gotham for Paris. His training becomes more difficult when he makes the realization that the people who are the best at what they do are often the hardest to find. After taking to the rooftops, he sees a crime in progress, but discovers his skills are not up to the task in the worst way possible.

The next day he finds himself opposite the highly skilled burglar at a café in the city and she offers to help train him as the killer that is wiping out families strikes again. The police bring in a familiar face to investigate the crime while Bruce and his new teacher get closer. Their closeness gives him more doubt as he wonders how much he will have to compromise to fulfill his promise. Unfortunately, his first foray into burglary will lead to a dangerous standoff.

The Story: Zdarsky crafts an interesting story in this issue. There is a great tone to the story and I like seeing Bruce deal with both his doubts and his commitment to the task he’s undertaken. The story has a great tone throughout and the characters are both compelling and entertaining. I like the mystery at play in the plot and how it runs parallel to Bruce’s story. I loved the cliffhanger ending and I cannot wait to see what happens next.

The Art: Di Giandomenico delivers some great visuals throughout the story. The action is thrilling and the character designs are fantastic. There is great style to the art that is enjoyable and full of energy.
