The Rundown: Batgirl Cassandra Cain attempts to rescue Stephanie Brown from her recently resurrected father.

The story begins with Batgirl rushing to an isolated cabin to track down her teammate. Meanwhile, Cluemaster plays a violent game with his daughter. Soon Batgirls arrive and an altercation occurs that leads to deadly consequences. In the aftermath, Batgirl makes a dramatic choice and Cluemaster is punished for his actions. Later, the two Batgirls have a heart to heart. Lastly, a journalist receives an unexpected gift.

The Story: This well spun chapter concludes the Batgirls’ latest story arc in dynamic fashion. Relationships are at the forefront of this action-packed episode, and I was particularly impressed by the level of feeling that encompassed the interaction between Stephanie and Cluemaster. I love it when a villain is written in a way that shows their humanity. And even though his mental health issues are in the forefront, Cluemaster’s love for his child also shines through. Also, the relationship between Cassie and Stephanie are highlighted and strengthens this series’ themes of found family and sisterhood. Finally, this episode ends in a stunning cliffhanger, and I look forward to the introduction of a new storyline.

The Art: This issue has some well-designed action sequences and interesting dialogue filled content. I found the modern styling and attention to detail really connects the readers to the characters emotions and intentions. Overall, I liked the artwork and found that it perfectly conveyed the tone of the chapter.
