Over 82,000 people are expected to flood the downtown Atlanta area Labor Day weekend to celebrate all things Geek-related at this years Dragon Con. According to a press release from the event, the amount of celebrities who will be attending this year will satisfy fans across the spectrum. Here is a short list of some of the big name attendees to this years Dragon Con:
You can’t have a massive event like Dragon Con, which celebrates the best in pop and geek culture, without having an appearance by the Generalissimo himself, Stan Lee. Lee has helped to shape many of our childhoods and his ability to command the room and engage with fans makes him an amazing addition to the growing lineup of stellar guests at this year’s event.
Joining Lee at the event will be luminaries from some of the best movies and television series in the world. You can speak to and spend time with stars from your favorite television series and movies including Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers) and Erin Grey (Wilma Deering) from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck), Tricia Helfer (Number Six), Kate Vernon (Ellen Tigh) and Micheal Hogan (Saul Tigh) from Battlestar Galactica and stars of the hit BBC series Doctor Who Matt Smith (The Doctor), Alex Kingston (River Song), John Barrowman (Jack Harkness), Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) and Karen Gillan ( Amy Pond. Who will also be there with her Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 co-stars Sean Gunn, Michael Rosenbaum and Micheal Rooker).
Stars of many of the CW’s superhero TV shows are also attending this year including Arrow‘s Paul Blackthorne (Quentin Lance) and Echo Kellum (Curtis Holt/ Mr. Terrific), The Flash‘s Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow/ Killer Frost), John Wesley Shipp (Henry Allen/ Jay Garrick) and Supergirl‘s Kevin Sorbo (Lar Gand).
“We are delighted to have so many guests from so many of today’s most popular or, in the case of classic science fiction, best loved shows and movies to join us this year,” convention co-chair Rachel Reeves said. “Overall, we will have some 400 guests – actors, authors, artists and other creators and experts – from across science, science fiction, and fantasy worlds, in whatever medium.”
Star Wars fans will get the honor to meet Chewbacca himself Peter Mayhew, who originated the role in the 1977 film and its subsequent sequels. Star Trek fans will not be left out as Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner will be in attendance along with Star Trek: Voyager‘s Garret Wang (Ensign Harry Kim), Karl Urban (Star Trek reboots, Dredd and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok) and a mini reunion in honor of the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation with stars Michael Dorn (Worf), Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi), Brent Spiner (Data), Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker) and Gates McFadden (Doctor Crusher). Another sci-fi series favorite will on hand as well as Firefly and Serenity star Nathan Fillion (Captain Malcolm Reynolds) will be there to spend time with fans.
Another sci-fi reunion that will take place at this year’s Dragon Con will be with the leads of the 1997 hit film Starship Troopers as Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer and Patrick Muldoon will be in Atlanta.
Brett Dalton (Grant Ward) and Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May) from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will be in attendance as well as stars from series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer including Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase) and Julie Benz (Darla) and Mystery Science Theater 3000 including Trace Beaulieu (Clayton Forrester), Frank Coniff (TV’s Frank) and Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot).
This year’s Dragon Con is shaping up to be another amazing weekend with events and activities across AmericasMart Buildings #1 and #2 and five host hotels – Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Marriott Marquis, Hilton Atlanta, Westin Peachtree, and Sheraton Atlanta. Dragon Con takes place Labor Day weekend September 1-4.
