The Rundown: With Lazarus hunting him down, Superman will take a trip into his recent past in a familiar place.

After escaping from Lazarus, Superman deposits Lois and Jimmy in a field in Kansas before returning to his fortress of solitude within Sol, his battle suit. Inside, he thinks of the past and his previous attempts at trying to be among humans. At the same time, Lois and Jimmy head into town and are given an unexpected greeting from the locals.

Kal continues to examine his relationship to humanity and the lessons he’s learned from Sol and the two come to an understanding as he emerges. When Lois and Jimmy return, he greets them, but Ras and Talia are racing to Kansas and they are bringing all of their forces with them to lay siege on the town of Smallville.

The Story: Aaron crafts an engaging, thoughtful and thrilling story in this issue. The world being created in this series continues to fascinate and excite me. I love the relationship between Kal and Sol as well as the evolution of Lois and Jimmy as characters. There are some great dark moments in the story, but also some light that permeates the plot and allows the reader to care about Superman and his individual struggles. I also really enjoyed the suspense at the end of this story and how it makes me excited to see what happens next.

The Art: Sandoval creates some beautifully detailed and visually thrilling art throughout the issue. From the journey of Superman to the Lois/Jimmy story in Smallville, everything looks amazing.
