The Rundown: A powerful necromancer seeks revenge while being hunted by an old foe.

Liliana Vess has made her way to Innistrad in search of information. Information she can only get from one of the corrupt churches of Avacyn. As she makes her way through the town, she sees the desperation of the people as she confronts a couple of prisoners of the church who might have information about the demon she seeks.
At the same time, the hunter known as Garruk makes his way to the city as well to force Liliana to end the curse she put on him. As she leaves the city for her next destination, Garruk confronts her and she releases a horde of dead to stop him as she makes her way to the next city and her demon that she seeks.
The Story: Gronbekk crafts a dark, thrilling and entertaining story that does a great job of bringing new readers into the world of Magic the Gathering as well as tap into the lore that fans and players know well. The story has great pacing, dialogue and action and I love that it builds to the confrontation between Liliana and Garruk. This first issue definitely hooked me and I look forward to seeing where the story takes me next.
The Art: Rerekina creates some stunning art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and the character designs immensely. Everything has a great look including the world the characters inhabit.
