The Rundown: Raffi is given her first command and a dangerous mission with a new crew.

In the wake of Frontier Day, Raffi is met on an alien moon by Admiral Janeway who not only promotes her to the rank of Captain but gives her command of the USS Endeavor with a special, classified mission. After meeting with Seven and taking the command, she begins her first mission by showing her first officer new technology that will make finding potential threats much easier.

Their first mission will bring the ship to a remote planet covered in ice with an opening the ship will enter to infiltrate the ocean underneath. Their mission is to find an ancient alien weapon, but they run into several issues from the potential stress on the ship to the alien life beneath the surface. To make matters worse, the opening they used to enter is sealing quickly and could trap them forever.

The Story: Anders crafts an entertaining story in this first issue. I like the dynamic between Raffi and Seven and how those moments showcase not only the relationship but everything Raffi has fought to repair and maintain in her life. I like the addition of Tendi in this story. She is different than she is in Lower Decks and her pragmatism is a great way to balance Raffi in the story. I find myself curious about the other officers on the bridge and look forward to seeing where the story goes next.

The Art: Gonzalez offers some great visuals throughout the issue. I really like the character designs and the environments.
