The Rundown: While Rogue and Gambit confront the demon inside him, the rest of the X-Men discover something tragic.

Rogue and Gambit are staying at a monastery and both are being plagued by dark voices. One convinces Gambit to break from the chains holding him, transform and escape. After finding something posing as his son, Father Gabriel confronts him with a weapon to fight the demons that have manifested alongside Rogue. A fight that will force them to leave the grounds and seek someone who might be able to remove the demon from the mutant.

At Haven House, Marcus gets up to start breakfast and discovers something has killed his chickens. The X-Men are training nearby and rush to his aid only to discover that there is a young mutant hiding in the coop that is on the run from something he cannot name. Monet decides to take a new approach with the young and possibly dangerous mutant and talk to him while Wolverine and Nightcrawler plan on finding out who did this to him and where they are.

The Story: Simone continues to craft an engaging, entertaining story in this issue. I love how the story splits into themes of redemption with Gambit and Monet. Gambit’s fight is personal and interesting because of what it teases about his future with Rogue. Monet’s fight is more subtle as she tries to find a way to be more nurturing to the young mutant she finds. Both stories work beautifully together and Simone finds a great way to have the reader care about both.

The Art: Vecchio creates beautifully detailed and visually exciting art. I love the visual contrast between the dark journey Gambit is on and how the story at the farm takes place in the light.
