The Rundown: Cliff and Betty head to the Alps for a secret spy mission.

It’s 1944 and the allied bombers heading to Europe find themselves being attacked with an unseen weapon. On a ship in the Pacific, Betty is on her way to Europe to star in a new film produced by the Nazis and Cliff is coming along as both her manager and brother so they can spy on the production and the surrounding area.

After meeting with his contact, the pair make their way to the Alps where filming has commenced and during the night, Cliff sees something in the mountains that will prompt him to suit up and take to the skies. After being attacked by Nazi troops, Cliff barely escapes and discovers that there is another spy on a similar mission in the area.

The Story: Hardman crafts a thrilling, entertaining adventure in this first issue. It weaves together all of the elements that I love about the Rocketeer and his world as well as create some great human drama for Cliff and Betty as they find themselves behind enemy lines and without backup. I like the more direct action Cliff is taking in this issue already and look forward to seeing where the story goes and what happens next.

The Art: Kotz delivers some beautifully detailed and visually exciting art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this story and how it captures and enhances the themes and tone of the story.
