The Rundown: A young woman returns to her childhood home to discover something dark from beneath the surface.

Tabby is a young woman on the run. After placing a call and sending a warning, she sets out on her journey to return to her grandmother’s home and possible safety, but she is in fear with every mile driven. After barely missing an emaciated dog in the road, she is relieved until another motorist slams into it and she is forced to watch it die a slow death.

She returns to the small town of Solitude and the home of her grandmother, but no one is there to greet her. As she searches the house and finds that someone has been there, she heads down and discovers something dark and shocking.

The Story: Condon and Ehrich create something beautifully atmospheric in this first issue. The central conflict is set up well with the conversation Tabby has on the phone and her fear when she is pulled over, but things take an interesting and dramatic turn towards the end of the issue when she goes looking for her grandmother. The story has a great setup in this issue that makes me interested in seeing what happens next.

The Art: Adlard creates some great visual moments throughout the issue. The visual style of the art perfectly captures the tone and mood of the story.
