The Rundown: A tragedy that affects the entire galaxy leads to the creation of a new ship and a potentially dangerous alliance.

In the far future, Captain Sato of the starship Sagan is leading a fleet to a rendezvous with Gorn forces to offer them another chance to become part of the Federation. After a tense standoff and some expert diplomacy on their part, the Gorn agree right before a series of explosions devastates both fleets. Explosions that Sato and a small group of officers survive before returning to Earth. Explosions that echo throughout the galaxy and that the Federation has labeled ‘The Burn’.
In the wake of the Burn, Sato and the few remaining captains are called to a meeting to discuss next steps. A meeting that will see the arrival of the new leader of the Borg who has a proposal for the devastated Federation. She will help them craft a new starship, but her price will be access to something Starfleet has that could potentially change everything.
The Story: Lanzing and Kelly craft an intense, interesting and thrilling story in this first issue. I love the far future setting of the story and where it brings the Federation. I love the connection to Discovery with the Burn as well as the direct connection to Picard season two and what happened to Agnes. The story takes some huge leaps and bold chances right up to the cliffhanger ending that makes me excited to see what happens next.
The Art: Bonilla creates some beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. I really love the visual style and how it moves the world of this story forward.
