The Rundown: An FBI agent set to retire is sent on a case in an area between two super powers.

FBI Agent Kevin Collins is set to retire from the FBI. His speech is prepared and his letter is typed, but when he steps into his director’s office, he is told that they can’t accept his retirement and they need him to travel to a small island on the border between the US and Russia to investigate a possible murder in the neutral zone between the nations.

After learning more about the complicated politics of the situation, Collins returns home to a cold and uncomfortable conversation with his wife before he has to board a plane to the Alaskan border. As he departs a chopper to a frozen wasteland, he finds himself face to face with the victim and the dark and ominous crime scene.

The Story: Kudranski delivers a fantastic first issue with a character that is instantly engaging and a story that is compelling. I love the exploration of cold war America and the intricate politics of that world both within the character and his mission. This is definitely a world I want to explore and I look forward to seeing where this story takes me.

The Art: Kudranski always delivers stellar art and this first issue is no exception. I love the color palate, the details in the character and the use of shadow to convey mood.
