The Rundown: Jackson Dragon learns a hard lesson about what it takes to be a hero.

Jackson Dragon has decided to make his first foray out into the world as a hero and he finds the Bay Guardian in the middle of the stake out. After the two have some not so friendly sparring that allows Jackson to show off his moves and physical skill, Guardian agrees to let him tag along as he investigates a human trafficking ring.
Guardian and Jackson decide to move in and bring down the people in charge discovering that the leader of the traffickers is a pair of super powered beings led by Maneater who sends the trafficked women to kill their rescuers using mind control. Immune to its effects, Jackson proceeds to fight back, but his zeal to do good, his lack of training and inability to know his own strength will lead to tragedy.
The Story: Larsen crafts a thrilling, entertaining story in this issue. The story follows an intriguing premise and manages to pull off a tough coming of age story mixed with a story that showcases the emotional toil of violence as well as the problem of exposing that violence to children. I like that the story doesn’t pull any punches literally or thematically as it drops Jackson into a world he is not ready for.
The Art: Larsen delivers great art throughout the story. The visuals have a fantastic, bright tone and style that captures the tone and mood of the story.
