The Rundown: Thor finds that his battle against Mjolnir will require a sacrifice from someone close to him.

With a dark entity infecting Mjolnir and preparing to kill Thor, Beta Ray Bill rushes off to defend his king and he won’t be doing it alone. After putting out the call to allies of Thor from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and more, Bill prepares to take on the creature. In Broxton, Thor rises and faces the creature before calling on help for his father. As the creature prepares for a killing blow, help arrives.

Unfortunately, Thor’s friends do not realize the being they face or the power arrayed against them. To protect his friends and family, Thor calls upon an unlikely source of power. A power that will reveal secrets to the god of thunder. Secrets that will lead to the ultimate sacrifice to give Thor what he needs to end the threat of Mjolnir. A power that will cement his rule as the king of Asgard.

The Story: Cates delivers a dynamic, exciting and emotional powerhouse of a story in this issue. I loved seeing Beta Ray Bill rally Thor’s friends to his side. What was more impressive was the reveals in the story and what they mean to both Thor and his relationship with Mjolnir. There were some great character moments and the final moments of the issue were beautifully done.

The Art: Klein delivers some awesome visual moments throughout the issue. The scenes are dynamic and exciting and the style perfectly captures the tone and drama of the story.
