The Umbrella Academy
Season 1 Episode 3
Five years ago, the seventh member of the Umbrella Academy decided it was time for the world to know her story. Vanya decided to tell that story by releasing a tell-all book. Her life as the only ordinary, unimportant member of the family brought her temporary fame and short term success before interest waned.
It did not go over well with her family. Even Number 5 read it trapped in a future apocalypse.
As Vanya deals with her ordinary existence, Luther and Allison have bigger fish to fry when they look through the surveillance video and discover that “Mom” did nothing while their father was dying in front of her.
Diego tries to help Eudora with her investigation into the death of the truck driver and the shootout at the Donut shop. Diego is unaware of how close he is to the target of Hazel and Cha-Cha. The two assassins find that their organization is not happy with their failure to kill Number 5 and Hazel continues to question his existence and whether or not he wants to keep killing for a living.
Vanya steps out of her own shadow after being asked out by Leonard but their plans are cut short when Allison tells her that they’re meeting to discuss what to do about Mom. When Hazel and Cha Cha decide to storm the Umbrella Academy to find 5, they get more than they bargained for when they run into the rest of the team.
This episode was incredibly fun and entertaining. Not only does it showcase the dysfunction in the family, but it also shows positive moments, especially the ones with Diego and Mom. There are some great emotional moments in this episode and the action sequence towards the end of the episode is amazing. Having Hazel and Cha-Cha take on the siblings was masterful in both staging and style. It was a great sequence that ends an episode with some interesting twists.
