The Rundown: Edward finds love, but his new wife is not what she appears.
Edward continues his studies of the occult and pays a visit to a group watching over a woman named Asenath Waite who apparently has the power to alter the weather. After meeting with the woman and having a demonstration of her power, the pair get closer and eventually decide to marry.
Carla and Daniel are happy for their friend, but something about his new wife rubs them the wrong way and they see growing changes in Edward that concern them including his demeanor and behavior. When Carla has a strange encounter with a fleeing Edward, their concern only grows until a visit from their old friend reveals he’s leaving and might not be coming back.
The Story: Birks continues to craft a wonderfully dark Lovecraftian style thriller in this issue. The relationship between Edward and Asenath is brilliantly layered and has some wonderful dark energy that intrigues me along with her character. All of the characters are interesting and I love the moments between Daniel and Carla as they show concern for Edward and try to discover what is happening to him. There is a great mystery beginning in this series and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
The Art: Roberts delivers beautifully detailed and visually stunning art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and there are some truly terrifying visual moments throughout the story.
