The Rundown: Cut off from the Green, Swamp Thing finds himself being hunted.

A chemical attack on a forest in India cuts off Levi from the green itself and prevents him from fully transforming into the Swamp Thing. Vulnerable and confused, Levi retreats to memories of his brother and father in an attempt to connect him to something. Unfortunately, the attack wasn’t random and the Suicide Squad is on site to retrieve Swamp Thing for Waller.

While Levi is in his memories, Heatwave discovers his physical body and attempts to destroy it with fire. Levi escapes and as the rest of the Squad moves in on his location, the lessons he gets from his connection to the forest might be just what he needs to become what he needs to be.

The Story: Ram V constructs a vivid, compelling story in this issue. There is a more thoughtful narrative going on with this character and that works in the world and context of the Swamp Thing. The story also keeps the tension going with the threat of the Suicide Squad which is used incredibly well. The story has a lot of heart as well and Ram V is doing a great job of giving the audience reason to care for and about Levi.

The Art: Mike Perkins does amazing work with the art in this issue. The art is as compelling as the story and Mike Spicer’s colors give the backgrounds a lush feel that complements the artistic details.
