The Rundown: Soluna tries to protect Beatrice from becoming a sacrifice.

Beatrice and Soluna have been taken with the other sacrifices to a magical place filled with joy and light. Soluna knows what is going to happen to the children there, but when she tries to help young Beatrice, she is told what happens to her when she falls asleep. What emerges from her and how it destroys everything and everyone around her.

Soluna does everything she can not to fall asleep and begs Beatrice to help her. As days go on, Beatrice continues to deny being friends with the missing princess. When she falls asleep, the darkness inside her emerges and attacks the guards giving Soluna and Beatrice time to escape with the other kids. Unfortunately, her outburst allows her father to discover where she is.

The Story: Remender continues to craft an engaging and compelling story in this issue. I love the buildup of tension and suspense throughout the story. I continue to enjoy the tension in the relationship between Soluna and Beatrice and the things that Soluna is learning about the world by being in it. I also continue to enjoy how the narrative of this series continues to shift between the characters and I am consistently surprised by where the story goes next.

The Art: Fiumara delivers beautifully detailed and visually impressive art throughout the issue. The art is stunning on every page and panel.
