The Rundown: Saoirse travels a dangerous maze to rescue her brother from another witch.

Saoirse, her grandmother and Hugh descend into darkness on the hunt for Nicneven who has taken her brother Brahm. As they travel, they discover a maze beneath the Earth and Hugh continues to attempt to keep Saoirse calm and failing as Brahm is trapped in a fantasy world being taken care of by their dead parents.

After they get separated, Hugh and grandmother hunt for the missing Saoirse, who has discovered the lair of the witch and is being fooled by her dead parents the same way her brother is. When her friends arrive, they help her break out of the illusion and can only watch as Saoirse unleashes her power on the witch and does not hold back despite Hugh’s warnings.

The Story: McCreery delivers a solid, entertaining follow up to the first issue. I love the immediacy of the story and how it builds tension and suspense throughout both with the kidnapping of Brahm, but also with the rising anger within Saoirse and Hugh’s attempts to help her navigate it. The story has a fantastic buildup to the confrontation with the witch and I love the way the character deals with the encounter, the aftermath and what it means for the story going forward.

The Art: Glass delivers beautifully detailed and stylish art throughout the issue. I love the visuals, the action and the emotional beats.
