The Rundown: Billy starts to question his mission as The Boys decide on their next move.

After being surrounded by some angry Vikings, Billy calls in some help to take them down and reiterate why their leader needs to get close to Stormfront. After finishing that bit of business, Billy and Becky spend some time together and she tells him that he could use some therapy. A thought he rejects, but something he keeps in mind based on her influence.

Later, The Boys get more intel about the impending launch of a new superhero group onto the world and they have to form a plan for what to do about them. When Billy hears the plan being laid out, he begins to wonder if they aren’t going hard enough at the supes.

The Story: With the characters and conflicts firmly in place, Garth Ennis decides to flesh out the world of this story by dialing into the psyche of Billy Butcher. There is a lot of dialogue and exposition in this issue. The characters talk more and you get a sense of where Billy is as a character both professionally and personally. You can see how some of his harder edges are starting to soften and why that adds to the drama of the story. The exposition can get dry at times and there are moments where I wished for something to happen, but the story serves its purpose and the end makes me interested in going forward.

The Art: Great art from Russ Braun. The characters look great and the one fight scene is beautifully brutal. Would have loved to see more action, but the art does a great job of capturing the mood of the story.
