The Rundown: An old enemy of Malcolm’s gets a new power and Paul learns a harsh lesson about the new dimension he’s in.

In the aftermath of the battle against the Vicious Circle, Malcolm is in the hospital recovering from his injuries and learning about the events that led Paul Dragon to Dimension X. With Malcolm on the mend, he’s allowed to go home and he and Maxine attempt to have a normal Christmas with their family. Unfortunately, one of Malcolm’s enemies from his time in the states steals the power of another and heads straight to Toronto.

With a new MAKO on the loose with the mind of a serial killer, Paul makes the mistake of confronting the villain on his own to give Malcolm time with his family. A confrontation that will prompt Malcolm to step in and will leave Paul damaged in more ways than one.

The Story: Larsen drops the reader back into the action with this issue and the story continues to be complex, emotional and engaging. With all of the heavy plot points in the last two issues, Larsen still has the ability to inject humor into the story along with a degree of self-referential sarcasm that is endearing. I like the fact that this story doesn’t take the easy way out with its characters and instead ramps up the drama and stakes for all them right up until the end.

The Art: Larsen does a great job of bringing the same humor, emotion and brutality to the art that he brings to the story. Every scene matches the tone and emotion of the moment.
