Ryan Gosling is preparing to take another trip into the stars with a new movie from the writer of ‘The Martian’.
According to Variety, Gosling has been reading a manuscript for the next novel from Andy Weir and before finishing it, started lobbying execs to make it his next project as well as bring on directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Weir’s next book, currently known as Project Hail Mary, tells the story of a single astronaut in space tasked with saving the planet. The book is scheduled to be released in spring of 2021. The rights were sold for seven figures. Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy released a statement about the project saying;
“All of us at MGM are incredibly excited by this literal dream team coming together around Andy’s astounding novel. With their masterful ability to balance drama, action, and humor, Phil and Chris are the perfect filmmakers to take on this unique material and we are thrilled to have them partner with Ryan, Ken, Andy, Amy and Aditya to bring this movie to life for big screens everywhere.”
Gosling recently starred as astronaut Neil Armstrong in Damien Chazelle’s First Man. Miller and Lord are the writers and directors of films like The Lego Movie, 22 Jump Street and Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse.
