Matt Reeves’ take on the caped crusader is still in production, but there is news that the movie will expand into a series coming to HBO Max.

According to multiple sources Warner Brothers and DC Comics are bringing a new live action series to HBO Max set in the same universe as the upcoming Matt Reeves Batman film starring Robert Pattison as the Dark Knight.

The series does not have a title currently, but the premise will consist of police detectives working the streets of Gotham City in the shadow of its costumed vigilante. People are comparing it to the classic GCPD series created by Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka. In addition, The Batman star Jeffrey Wright is rumored to continue in the role of Police Commission James Gordon on the series after his film introduction.

According to HBO Max, the series; “set in the world Reeves is creating for The Batman feature film and will build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series provides an unprecedented opportunity to extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham.”

Reeves will executive produce the series alongside Boardwalk Empire creator and executive producer Terence Winter, who will also write the series.
