In what many fans are calling welcome news and others calling a forgone conclusion, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have struck a deal for the next big screen adventure of Spider-Man and his continued presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to multiple reports in Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and others, Marvel Studios will produce another Spider-Man film for Sony.

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” said Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige. “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

Details on the new deal have not been released, but the broad strokes of it include Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios to produce and run creative point on one more Spidey film starring Tom Holland. Depending on how things work with that collaboration, more films could follow. The deal also includes Spider-Man appearing in another Marvel Studios film in the future.

The third Marvel Studios produced Spider-Man film is scheduled to be released July 16, 2021.
