The Rundown: More of Marian’s past is revealed and that past might be the only thing can save her.

Marian’s past as a fighter is revealed as she wakes up in Raveena’s home. Still untrusting of the witch, Marian attempts to leave, but Raveena exacts a price for her help. After returning to the church, she finds herself speaking with Benvolio who is having an issue with his faith in his fellow cardinals and Marian teaches him a lesson in charity.
Marian returns to Raveena and tells her the truth of her vision of the holy mother and the two agree to something that could protect her sisters while also sending a message to the cardinals. The witches begin an attack on the barracks with Marian there to witness it, but she discovers that one of the soldiers is not who she thinks he is.
The Story: Howard continues to craft an interesting and engaging story in this issue. The reveal of Marian’s past was great and I love the way she is facing the truth of the church she serves and the power that is protecting her. There are some compelling moments between Marian and Benvolio as well as Raveena and those moments give great perspective on the character. A truly impressive series that is getting better and more intriguing with each issue.
The Art: Jaro delivers stunning art throughout the issue. I love the character designs a lot and the action is visually impressive.
