According to an exclusive in The Hollywood Reporter, Frozen 2 writer Allison Schroeder has been brought in by Warner Brothers to write a script based on the best selling video game Minecraft. Warner Brothers got the rights to the adaptation in 2014 with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creator Rob McElhenney brought in to direct. Peter Sollet is currently on board to direct.

The world creation game is a best seller that allows players to either create their own world in “creative” mode or survive against zombies and spiders in “survival” mode.

Allison Schroeder was recently nominated for an Academy Award for co-writing the film Hidden Figures. She has also co-wrote Disney’s Christopher Robin film as well as the upcoming Frozen sequel.

Minecraft is slated for release March 4, 2022.
