With a new year in front of us and so much happening the world of entertainment, we’ve decided to bring back a favorite feature. One that is near and dear to us and should be since it’s part of the name; Fancast Friday.

With another Friday here and no new episode of The Mandalorian since its glorious season two finale, we thought we would revisit one of the bigger plot points of the season. In the season two episode “The Jedi” we got our first look at Rosario Dawson as a live action version of former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano as she went after an evil magistrate for information. The information she wanted is the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Thrawn is a character created by writer Timothy Zahn for the Heir to the Empire Star Wars novel in 1991. His popularity among Star Wars fans old and new brought the character from the novels into canon with his appearance in Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Rebels animated series where he met an unknown end along with Jedi in training Ezra Bridger. Now that it has been established that the character is still be hunted by Ahsoka, we are going to give our top picks on who should play the cunning villain in the upcoming Ahsoka spin-off series.

Lars Mikkelsen

The second season of The Mandalorian showcased some of the characters created for the animated series Clone Wars and in one instance, brought that character to life with the actress who voiced her playing her in real life. That being said, there’s no reason why Lars Mikkelsen, who voiced the character on Star Wars Rebels, could not reprise the role in real life. Mikkelsen is an accomplished stage and screen actor with an ecclectic and impressive list of roles including the wizard Stregobor in Netflix’s The Witcher and Viktor Petrov in House of Cards.

It also doesn’t hurt that his brother Mads Mikkelsen is already a part of the Star Wars universe with his role of Galen Erso in Rogue One.

Joseph Fiennes

Another actor who can pull of both the steely determination of Thrawn, but the unassuming charm of the character is Joseph Fiennes. Fiennes has a varied and impressive list of roles that have had him take on the role of both hero and villain. From his earliest role in Shakespeare in Love to his current role on Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Fiennes has the ability to give a nuanced performance in any role, even one that has him as the villain.

Mark Strong

With the smooth on-screen presence of a coiled snake ready to strike, Mark Strong is a perfect embodiment of the steely cool of Thrawn. From his roles in films like Kick-Ass, Zero Dark Thirty and more to his television role in Low Winter Sun, Strong has a unique ability to play nuanced characters that have an edge to them.

So there are three of our choices for who could play a convincing and menacing Grand Admiral Thrawn on the upcoming Ahsoka Disney Plus series. What are your choices? Let us know in the comments below.
