Currently, there are no details about the series beyond Deadline’s confirmation, but rumors have followed the actor for years about reprising the role in a standalone Star Wars movie and Disney+ has made a commitment to expanding the Star Wars universe with their upcoming streaming service. Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian is slated to launch on the new service as well as live action series featuring Rogue One’s Cassian Andor and a new season of the animated hit series Clone Wars.

Ewan McGregor played Obi-Wan Kenobi (a role originated by Sir Alec Guinness) in the three Star Wars Prequel films The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. He also made a voice cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. McGregor can soon be seen in the upcoming sequel to Stephen King’s The Shining titled Doctor Sleep.
