Disney is continuing to produce and release live action versions of its library of animated features and a month after getting the full cast of their live action Lion King remake, Disney has announced that they have found the star of the live action film based on the animated feature Mulan.

Disney went on a worldwide search for an actress to play the lead in Mulan with casting directors searching multiple continents and meeting with over a thousand candidates. After a year of searching, Disney announced that actress Liu Yifei also known as Crystal Liu would be taking the role of Hua Mulan, a fifth century Chinese woman who disguised herself as a man to join the army in place of her ailing father.

Liu is a popular actress in China starting with her starring roles in several television dramas in the country. Nicknamed “Fairy Sister” because of her image, Liu is fluent in English and has starred in films like The Forbidden Kingdom opposite Jet Li and Jackie Chan, Outcast starring Nicolas Cage and the upcoming period romance The Chinese Widow opposite Emile Hirsch.

The live action Mulan film is hoping for a 2019 release date and I’m hoping that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D star Ming-Na Wen is included in the film.
