One of the stars from the Wes Craven classic thriller Scream is returning for an upcoming reboot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor David Arquette is returning for the relaunch of the series from Spyglass Media Group. Kevin Williamson, the original screenwriter for the series, will return as well to executive produce. James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not) will co-write the script. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have been brought in to direct the film which hopes to start filming later this year.
David Arquette starred in four of the Scream films as deputy Dewey Riley. The heroic, but not very effective sheriff deputy managed to survive the films along with series star Neve Campbell, who is also rumored to be returning.
Arquette released a statement saying; “I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new,” Arquette said. “Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy.”
