According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dakota Johnson has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming Madame Web film from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless who also penned the script for the upcoming Morbius film. Jessica Jones and Defenders director S.J. Clarkson will helm the film.

Created by comic book legends Denny O’Neill and John Romita Jr, Madame Web made her first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #210 in November 1980. Real name Cassandra Webb, Madame Web in the comics is a telepathic, clairvoyant mutant with the ability to see events before they happen. She often uses her gifts to mentor other heroes including Spider-Man and Spider-Woman. It isn’t clear whether Johnson will play the Cassandra Webb version of the character or the Julia Carpenter version introduced in 2010.

Dakota Johnson is most well known for her role in the 50 Shades of Grey films, The Social Network, The High Note as well as the remake of Suspiria.
