The CW is getting into the reboot business along with the rest of the television industry.

It’s being reported by multiple sources including Variety and Deadline that the network has tapped Carina Adly MacKenzie (The Originals) to write and executive produce a reboot of the 1999 series Roswell. The original series starred  Katherine Heigl, Shiri Appleby, Colin Hanks Jason Behr and Brendan Fehr as aliens and the humans who befriend them as they hide among us evading the government intent on finding them.

The new Roswell will have a twist. According to a synopsis released on the new iteration of the series this Roswell will be about;

After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, NM, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: He’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.

No casting or release date has been announced.
