Avengers 4 is set to debut in theaters next year and one of the stars of the upcoming blockbuster has taken to Twitter to bid farewell to his character as he officially wraps filming.

Chris Evans has been the embodiment of Captain America for over 10 years now and he took to his Twitter feed to announce that he was done with filming the sequel to this year’s Avengers Infinity War.

“Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful,” Evans tweeted.

With Evans’ expected departure looming, fans are wondering if the character will die in the upcoming Avengers 4 or will he officially retire and hand off the mantle to either Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson (Falcon) or Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier). Both characters have taken on the mantle of Captain America in the comics after the departure or death of Steve Rogers.

Chris Evans will make his final appearance as Captain America in Avengers 4 opening May 3, 2019.
