After Black Panther’s historic nomination for Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards and its most recent win at the SAG Awards, fans of the film are being offered a treat.
250 AMC theaters will be featuring the film for one week February 1-7 in honor of Black History Month. The best part, tickets will be free. While it’s not unprecedented for Best Picture nominees to return to theaters for limited engagements ahead of the final round of Oscar voting, the success and accolades Black Panther has garnered have been a relative first for the superhero genre of films.
After announcing the screenings, Disney stated that they would donate a $1.5 million dollar grant to the United Negro College Fund.
Most of the cast has been signed on for a sequel, which was hinted at this year during the cast’s SAG win for Outstanding Performance by a Cast. Ryan Coogler will return to direct.
