The Rundown: Joker prepares to put the final part of this plan for Gotham in motion as Batman brings in some help.

The Bat family is reunited and they are ready to go to war to save Gotham City. With everything on the line and limited resources, the heroes split up to take down the army of clowns laying waste to the streets. While the rest of the team gets their marching orders, Batman and Harley Quinn head to Ace to take down the Joker. Unfortunately, their ideas of how to do it will cause more problems as Joker prepares to unleash his greatest joke.

At the same time, Catwoman enlists some allies to take back the Wayne fortune as Batman discovers new depths of the Joker’s depravity when he finally confronts the villain where it all started for them.

The Story: James Tynion IV brings a flair for the dramatic and the theatrical in this issue. Joker has been setting up something huge and this issue showcases not only the scope and scale of Joker’s design, but also how deep the villain is willing to cut into Bruce to get the reaction that he wants. What makes the issue more interesting is the fact that with everything on fire in the city and chaos raging, Harley Quinn’s pragmatism seems more and more reasonable given the circumstances. I love the interaction between the two of them more than the reuniting of the Bat Family frankly. While the moments were good, the Joker moments throughout were some of the best and the ending has dark and emotional.

The Art: Jorge Jimenez delivers some beautiful visuals throughout this issue. The destruction everywhere as well as the smaller details create some gorgeous panels. Everything visually builds to the disturbing final panels and a final page that left me reeling.
