Saturday Night Live made a huge impact on the cultural landscape this year and it won the series an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.

Tom Hanks has hosted SNL on multiple occasions and last year when he hosted, he introduced audiences to one of the most bizarre and hilarious characters the show has ever produced, David S. Pumpkins.

Well it looks like David S. Pumpkins is back in a new animated special that is set to air this October. Tom Hanks will once again return as Pumpkins in the animated feature as well as performing as the character live in the shows opening. The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special is set in a small town and focuses on a young boy who needs Pumpkins and his skeleton sidekicks to teach him the true meaning of Halloween.

The special will be written by the creators of the sketch Bobby Moynihan, Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell (Moynihan and Day play the skeletons in the original sketch). The special will also feature Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage and will be animated by the Emmy winning team behind Bob’s Burgers.

Here is the original sketch that started it all.

The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special will air on NBC Saturday October 28, 2017.
