The Rundown: The team goes in search of the Council, but Dracula’s power is still potent.

With the team finally together, they find themselves on their way to the Alps to find the hidden base of the Council of Firsts. Powerful creatures that could aid in stopping the upcoming attack, the Council has a long history with the United States and a secret treaty that goes back to the founding of the country. With the information they need in hand, they head to the mountain base to find them knowing that the entire area is protected by fearsome creatures.

As the team deals with the clues they discovered, Skinner continues to needle Pear. His desire to regain his immortality puts him at odds with the mission. As his brother gives him some hard truth about the woman and what she thinks of him, they discover something dark about the remains of Dracula they are carrying with them. As they get closer to their location, they are attacked and forced to land. A prospect that gets more dangerous when the guardians they were hoping to avoid awaken.

The Story: Snyder continues to ramp up the drama in this issue as well as the stakes for both the team and the world. The story focuses on the characters and their dynamics and it works to engage the reader in their collective and individual fates. The action works really well too. The tension throughout the story hits a great emotional peak as the story moves into the action and the dialogue reflects that tension as well. The cliffhanger ending definitely has me interested in what comes next.

The Art: Rafael Albuquerque delivers some stunning art in this issue. With the story being more character focused, the art reflects that with great, expressive art and close ups.
