Young Bruce Wayne takes the opportunity to make an impact statement at the trial of the man who killed his father. A statement that will resonate with him as remembers time with his father and an engineering project that will lead him to the man he will become.
As Bruce studies the city and the criminal elements at play throughout it, he begins to plan and his sojourns out as his new persona allow him to adapt and change based on his encounters. Changes that will utilize his unique skills to allow him to become more than he imagined, but the specter of his past returns to call on him.
The Story: Snyder continues to craft a unique and thoroughly compelling take on Batman and this issue does some fantastic world building while also giving the reader an intriguing history for this character. I like the trial and error elements of the plot and how those things are tied into bats as a species. I loved the father/son between Thomas and Bruce and how this version informs so much of Bruce’s drive and determination. I continue to be impressed with how engaging this storyline is and look forward to seeing more as the story progresses.
The Art: Gabriel Hernandez Walta creates some beautiful art in this issue. I love the evolution of the Batman visually in this issue and how the character views the world through an engineering standpoint.
