The Rundown: A young human finds a powerful ally while a Shadow leader finds themselves at war.

Monsters from across the territories meet in Chicago as Orpheus, the shadow creature is given the floor. They discuss the growing problems with the infrastructure of the territory as well as possible threats by rogue human factions before they are shut down by the leader of the most powerful territory in the area. After their warnings are dismissed, Orpheus is cornered and threatened by other monsters and they show these creatures just how powerful they truly are.

At the same time, the young human finds himself in the company of a large and dangerous creature that is trying to protect him from the werewolves and other creatures chasing him. After disguising the young human and throwing off the other creatures, the beast takes the young human to its den where he discovers that he is not the only human who has been in this creature’s company.

The Story: Dastmalchian and Kilpatrick continue to craft a thrilling, intense and darkly engaging story in this issue. It’s a fantastic follow up to the first issue and I love how it splits the story into the potential friendship between the human and the beast while also showcasing the world of this series through the dangers of the monsters both in their battles with each other and the potential threats they face to their world. I have become immersed in the world of this series and cannot wait to see where it goes next.

The Art: Lee creates beautifully detailed and visually compelling art throughout the issue. I love the visual language of this world and the creatures within it.
