The Rundown: Wanda takes over the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme and not everyone is happy about it.
With Strange missing and Doom sacrificing himself and the mantles of the Sorcerer Supreme, the Earth is vulnerable to magical attack. That attack comes from Dormammu who is surprised to see that Wanda Maximoff has taken on the vestments and title. As she stops his attack on the city, he warns her of the power she doesn’t understand. After dealing with some personal business, Wanda consults her own counselors including her greatest enemy about what she should do in her new role.
After restoring the cloak of levitation and the eye of Agamotto, Wanda is confronted by the Vishanti who want her to give up the mantle and allow them to choose a successor like they always have, but Wanda has a different idea. Unfortunately, her refusal to give up being the Sorceress Supreme will force the Vishanti to choose someone to take the power from her, Agatha Harkness.
The Story: Orlando crafts an engaging and compelling story in this first issue. I continue to love his evolution of Wanda as a character. Every Wanda story has something new and interesting in it and this is no exception. I like the tension throughout the story as the forces allied against her move and Wanda deals with her own doubts while steaming ahead with her mission. It’s going to be interesting to see what she does with the mantle and how it will affect the rest of the universe.
The Art: Chang delivers stunning art throughout the issue. I love the character designs and how Wanda’s looks evolve and change.
