The Rundown: The heroes of the DC universe are brought together to stop the return of Darkseid.

In a rare peaceful moment, Diana, Bruce and Clark get together to spend time together as friends before their evening is interrupted by the return of a super powerful and unstoppable Darkseid. The members of the League assemble to learn about the incursion already happened and that they have been brought back seven days to prevent it. Unfortunately, the only way to prevent it is for one of them to obtain the power of Darkseid and remake the universe itself.

As the heroes gather to compete in a contest to see who will get the power needed to stop Darkseid, they prioritize taking their villains off the board to prevent their interference. Unfortunately, their attempt to enter the arena to begin the contest will be interrupted by many of those villains who have their own stakes in the battle and the chance to remake the universe in their own image.

The Story: Snyder crafts a dark, fun and sometimes tragic story in this issue and each of those things happen in equal measure. There are things in the story that you want and don’t get alongside things you fully expect to happen that get turned on their ear. There are some amazing twists and turns throughout the issue and the moment with Batman truly shocked and entertained me. Snyder crafts a bold and brilliant intro into this story and has me hooked.

The Art: Fernandez and Xermanico create some visually stunning and thrilling art throughout this issue. I love the visual style and the visceral action and adventure throughout this story.
