The Rundown: A young woman discovers a danger power within her and that she is not the only one.
A young woman wakes up in the center of a crater surrounded by destruction. IN the present, the young woman named Aida finds herself in the woods and finds a friend crying over a dead bird. As other kids enter the area, one of them begins to use power that causes Aida to use violence to end the encounter. Violence that will get the attention of two powerful people who seem to be the ones in charge.
In the past, Aida is confronted by the same two people known as Alex and Vasha and they are trying to get her out of the area. Unfortunately, uniformed men arrive to kill her and Vasha uses her power to stop them before they are confronted by other powered individuals that they barely escape from.
The Story: Marquez crafts a thrilling, entertaining story in this first issue. He establishes the characters, stakes and complications both external and internal as well as crafting a mystery behind Aida’s circumstances that I want to see explored. I was impressed with everything about the story as well as the characters within it and who they are, but Aida’s story captured my attention from the first panels that introduce her.
The Art: Marquez delivers beautifully detailed and visually exciting art throughout the issue. I love the character designs and how brilliantly detailed the action is.
