The Rundown: A young Hellboy and his father find themselves in the fight of their lives in South America.

Professor Bruttenholm and Hellboy have traveled to South America to help with a dig in an underground city. After boarding the plane that will take them to the site, Hellboy notices something strange about the man traveling with them. During the flight, the man decides to attack them both after killing the pilots. The man, who believes he is on a holy mission, has been tasked with killing Hellboy, but succeeds on crashing the plane and sending father and son on the run.

As they fight to make their way to a nearby island, Hellboy and Bruttenholm find themselves surrounded by giant crabs, rampaging apes and dinosaurs. After getting separated, young Hellboy is rescued by one of his heroes, but the danger around them is closing in.

The Story: Mignola and Sniegoski craft a great opening to some untold tales of Hellboy. The character is delightfully innocent and his relationship with Bruttenholm is well done. The plot is really well done and the danger and intrigue make for a thrilling adventure for the pair. I am interested in seeing where this story goes next.

The Art: Craig Rousseau strikes the perfect tone with the art in the issue. The characters are well detailed and the adventure elements are visually thrilling.
