The Rundown: Xorn recounts the creation of a mutant uptopia and the reasons why it needs to be destroyed.

It is the tenth year of the Age of Revelation, Xorn recounts the creation of Doug Ramsey’s ultimate vision. He recounts the decision to allow him to become a member of the X-Men under Cyclops and how that decision led to their most dangerous clash with the government. A clash that would not only see the release of Fabian Cortez, but also the introduction of a virus that made an entire portion of the US uninhabitable to anyone who wasn’t a mutant.

As things become more dire for the country, Doug and his forces expand and take over more of the country after the government decides to escalate their attacks on these new mutant lands. As things come to a head, Xorn returns to a small band of mutants to prepare to bring this information to a contact in the past. One that will learn that Doug’s paradise is built on a lie.

The Story: MacKay delivers and entertaining and interesting story in this first issue. Personally, I’m not in the place where I want another huge X-Men vs everybody style event so soon after the end of the Krakoa era, but this story does have some interesting themes I want to see explored. I like that the story is told from Xorn’s point of view and the issue does a great job of creating and explaining this new and dark world. I’m intrigued, but staying reserved in my opinion until I see more.

The Art: Ramos delivers beautifully detailed and visually impressive art throughout the issue. From the action beats to the character moments, everything looks amazing.
